About Us
<The Heralds of Nerevar> was created in 2019 as a Morrowind-focused roleplaying project on ESO [PC-NA]. Our guild leadership is jointly managed by husband and wife duo @felthier and @sovaliah in addition to a small officer team with @thenaaru and @quelfabulous.While our presence on ESO may be relatively new, we have vast experience in leadership and storytelling in an MMO. If you played World of Warcraft on Moon Guard US and remember <The Sunguard>, well, that's us! @felthier was the GM, @sovaliah was an officer, and @thenaaru and @quelfabulous were both veteran members. A significant chunk of our guild membership is comprised people who followed us to ESO from WoW, and as a result we have a very friendly and familiar atmosphere in Heralds that is accommodating to people who are new to TES lore. Our goal in ESO is to provide a mature, safe, and welcoming space for everyone to experience this complex fantasy setting. We chose to settle on a dunmer-centric guild because they are just so unique. These ashen bug bastards are close to our hearts, and we hope you guys like them too. We're excited to explore the hardships and challenges that face the Dark Elf people, and we want to share that with other roleplayers, writers, and artists as they partipate in the guild's storylines!
Our Design Philosophy
The Heralds of Nerevar is a roleplaying guild on Elder Scrolls Online. We are tentatively putting the year at 2E 588 as the real-time progression from the 2E 582 ESO launch. This occurs during a period of great strife in Tamriel called the Interregnum. Your character at this stage has recently survived the chaos of the catastrophe known as The Soulburst and the Three Banners War, which is still ongoing. These two events will serve as the largest backdrop to our setting, as they caused calamity across Tamriel but also provided a catalyst for great change. Our tabletop system will focus on placing your character into the wild and outlandish world of Morrowind. Your character will interact with dozens of other characters, all of which have their own ambitions and unique world views. By and large, because of the tumultuous events having recently taken place, your character has bled into the white noise of the massive world around them. Your character may have been one of the hundreds of others that assisted in saving Tamriel from a grim fate, or they may have not been involved at all. As a player, you may choose your background as you deem fit, but most other characters will probably not know your character’s name or exploits until you’ve become more established in the guild. The Heralds of Nerevar storyline will focus on adventures and stories that coincide with in-game events but may not always engage with those quest lines directly. This allows us to tell our own stories within the lore of the Elder Scrolls universe, which is traditionally delivered through the perspective of the people living within it.It was said in a developer interview that the lore of the Elder Scrolls universe was designed from the perspectives of the Divine, the Soldier, and the Dog. As a design decision, the HoN tabletop system will focus more on personal development and regional conflicts. An example of what we mean by dialing back player power is how trivial a group of bandits might be to your character in mechanical gameplay in ESO, whereas in the HoN tabletop system, these encounters become far more dangerous because the overall power your character has will be relative to the story, not necessarily a reflection of in-game mechanics.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is <Heralds of Nerevar>?Heralds of Nerevar is a premier role playing guild in the Elder Scrolls Online that focuses on the trials and tribulations of the country of Morrowind during 2E 588. While there is no in character/in game organization called the Heralds of Nerevar, the guild will follow the storyline of a band of citizens of Morrowind taking up arms together to defend their homeland.■2. Why Morrowind?Simply put, Morrowind and the dunmer that reside there are completely unique compared to other fantasy universes. Its people are harsh and unlovable which creates a gripping experience that derives a truly engaging experience that can't be replicated elsewhere. Bethesda and Zenimax have taken extra care and time to flesh out the people of Morrowind, more than other provinces, and give them a unique culture of which this guild will honor.■3. What if I do not play a Dunmer? The Heralds do accept Outlanders, although keep in mind that the story does revolve around Morrowind and Dunmer. If your character has a relevant connection or reason to be involved in a group like this, they're more than welcome to apply!■4. Does this guild have RP events? What other game content do you do?Yes of course! Being an RP guild is our primary design first and foremost. Our events will take place both in game, in discord, and in roll20. We have a unique pen and paper homebrew system to facilitate the latter. As for other ESO content, we are all very active players and usually you can find someone willing to run a dungeon or queue up for battlegrounds with you. We have an lfg channel in our Discord as well to facilitate group formation/planning!■5. Does this guild have a guildhall?Yes! It's the Ebonheart Chateau and can be accessed by @felthier's primary residence. We frequently hold events there and get together for casual RP. As the guild storyline evolves to take the Heralds to Vvardenfell, you may see more houses being utilized as additional RP hubs.IC the Guild Hall belongs to Major Remasa Ules, a wealthy Hlaalu in service of the Ebonheart Pact. Ules recently sent out a contract seeking mercenaries, and has granted room and board to those who would take up her offer.■6. How lore centric is this guild? The Elder Scrolls universe has an absolutely massive breadth of lore accrued over the years that has gone into making Nirn a living, breathing world. Our vision for this guild is grounded in that narrative. The great thing about TES lore is that it’s never provided from on high - everything we know is delivered through the eyes of the characters in the universe, whether they’re a god, a soldier, or a commoner. Heralds of Nerevar will be another tale to tell in this world, influenced by the perspectives of the characters that comprise it. If you are new to ESO or TES in general, feel free to ask for help getting to know the lore and we’ll all be glad to help!■7. What is the stance on character power, whether that’s through magic or other means?Magic is an integral aspect of Nirn and it is part of the daily lives in one way or another of all beings in the world. However, mastery of magic is a completely different thing. In TES and our system in HoN, you’ll find an emphasis on resource-cost. Utilizing magic can achieve great power, certainly, but it also comes with a significant cost. We see this in the world through character insights in lorebooks, and also in quests as well. One of the best examples is when Abnur Tharn - one of the best human sorcerers alive - becomes exhausted almost to the point of incapacitation after summoning a meteor to strike down an enemy. Big spells have big costs and smaller spells, smaller costs respectively. Older TES games also represent this concept by having magicka pools that don’t replenish until your character physically rests. You can expect to find similar concepts in our guild and the sorcerers among it. You’ll see this as well with physical exertion, as health and stamina pools feature in our system alongside magicka.■8. Hortator? Moon-and-Star? Is this a Nerevarine guild? These titles used within Heralds are out-of-character ranks to denote guild leadership. They’re not specific to nerevarine texts, but rather small gestures of symbolism. They will not be used in a nerevarine or TES3 context in character. The ranking structure in guild is otherwise fairly straightforward, progressing from Hireling to Oathman to Kinsman to Officer. There’s an Affiliate rank as well for OOC friends or pals from the community.■9. What about slavery? Dunmer society is said to have slavery as a core concept?Yes, and the Heralds will acknowledge slavery existing as a story element of which you may see come up frequently. In Heralds, we will not allow players to roleplay as existing slaves or slave owners while being a member of this guild. Slavery is an abhorrent practice and we must acknowledge that out of character. While some may argue that the lens of our characters would see differently, our lens is that of today and it's important we recognize the impact slavery has had on history. That said, your character may have come from a previous life of slavery and all its horror and manipulation. Heralds view slavery as an unfortunate byproduct of their people's history and chooses to respect the terms outlined by the Ebonheart Pact banning the practice. Even our Telvanni membership will abstain from owning or holding slaves while being in character in this guild. On an out of character level, this decision was derived by experience having dealt with the topic in other mediums and the often problematic behaviors associated with it. For the sake of comfort and a desire to remove drama from the guild, we have chosen to not engage slavery on a systematic level, but will of course acknowledge its existence in the TES universe.■10. How do the Heralds feel about Werewolves and Vampires? The Blasphemous Revenants lore book accounts for a generalized summation of how Dunmer regard Vampires. While some individuals may have their own views, the Heralds as a collective would see vampires as heinous creatures that ought to be destroyed, especially considering that the strains of vampirism we know about in ESO cannot be hidden or kept secret. The March of Sacrifices dungeon similiarly offers a Dunmeri perspective of lycanthropy. The Ashlander Hanu explains that she could "not think of a worse fate" than condemnation to Hircine's Hunting Grounds, eternally separated from her ancestors. Perhaps some might regard werewolves with pity, and others with fear, considering that lycanthropy is a dangerous and violent affliction.■11. How do the Heralds feel about Necromancers?Death is an important aspect of Dunmeri culture. Ancestral communion is vital through the Dunmer, often conducted through blood and ritual for counsel and ceremony. The Blasphemous Revenants lore book touches on this as well, in the following excerpt:"Who can know the shame of the dead, the ceaseless weeping of the necromancer's thrall? Cruel enough is the ancestor's service given in love to Hearth and Kin. But ghost or guardian, bonewalker or bonelord, summoned by profane ritual and bound by force to the corpse miner's will, how may such a spirit ever find rest? How may it ever find its way back to its blood and clan?Only a righteous Dunmer, bound by blood to hearth and kin, bound by oath and service to the Temple, can call upon the spirits of the Dunmer dead. Those foreign sorcerers of other races that invade our shores, shall they be permitted to rob our tombs, to bind our kin-spirits into sorcerous slavery, to steal the lives of our dead as well as our land of the living? No, I say, no, and no, three times more. Such necromancers must die, and their profane magicks must die with them."
